It all started with feedback

We are Alex and Guille, and our journey began in September 2021 at IE University in Madrid, where we were both enrolled in a Master's program in Big Data. Before the coursework started, we participated in a class called "Working in Groups" led by Professor Manuel Lopez de Blas.

During an icebreaker exercise designed to share first impressions and provide honest feedback, something remarkable happened. Alex had been attending classes remotely via Zoom, sometimes not attending at all. Our group openly expressed concerns about working with him, sharing hopes and fears directly to his face. In many situations, such candidness might have led to tension or discomfort.

Instead, Alex embraced the feedback with humility and gratitude, sharing his own story in return. This moment was transformative. Our group went on to achieve exceptional results, not just in grades but in the depth of our collaboration. We realized the profound impact of honest, constructive dialogue.

Being from Southern Europe, we were particularly aware of how cultural norms can sometimes hinder the open acceptance of constructive criticism. Ego and insecurity can permeate companies, politics, and society, making it challenging for honest feedback to be received and acted upon. This experience showed us the importance of setting egos aside and fostering an environment where every voice contributes to collective growth. Creating a company together around feedback felt like the right thing to do.
